EMS Expo
Tuesday 17th February

- Tips for CS students in general with some UCC stuff sprinkled in
- Flyers for everyone, booklets for CS majors only
- [KKZ], [KRY] and [DOC] will be available
- Need talking points / dialogue tree for people at stall
- Our marketing and direction is a bit vague
- Need to focus on a target audience (CS students)
- Need to have events that focus on them
- Need to point out our services AND what students can use them for
- e.g. servers can be used for hosting Minecraft, web apps etc.
- The direction is not a full transformation of the club into career-based
- Fights CFC for audience and doesn't work with us
- Serves as a "pointer" for our marketing, people can decide once they step in the door
- What distinguishes us from other CS clubs? We need an identity to market with
- we are a club based around meeting people with similar interests, unlike every other tech club
- Flexible/modular
- Meeting new people with similar interests or in your classes
- [KKZ]: Maybe an event for bringing in new students to make friends
- With icebreakers etc.
- [233]: Social event focused on studying/more academic stuff
- [233] makes a slanderous comment about how project night never has any work done (/s)
- [233]: I meant that I haven't. ☹
- [KKZ]: Maybe an event for bringing in new students to make friends
- If mentioning lab facilitators who are UCC members to students, don't use the work "tutors" to avoid confusion
- Need to focus on a target audience (CS students)

Tentative/Future Events
Pizza + Canned Beer Event
July or further out
- [NTU]: Please pick a date to aim for, how about Monday 2026-06-01 or Friday 2026-06-05?
- This is a straightforward, relatively small event to run, but it needs:
- at least a couple of named RSA's/hosts: [GPO]? [ZPH]?
- EMP and permit (see
/services/http/infobase/committee/2025/2025-11-02.ucc) - notice, 21 days or more after EMP approval for the permit
- not to be combined with larger or more complicated events
- to be in the specific booked venue (clubroom or Loft) to work well
- Time-restricted, area-restricted, no sales, basic beer/cider served with food
- Can be ticketed, paid even: enough to cover pizza, supplies, transport, spillage
- ...and not to be marketed or overegged or rescheduled to odd weekend times or odd target audiences
- This is a straightforward, relatively small event to run, but it needs:
Online Games Nights
- [KKZ] wants to run some of these occasionally
- In voice chat on the Discord
- Gartic Phone for example
Hack Nights
- Events where people can code just for fun, not for contribution
- Low threshold, new people friendly, etc
- e.g "Worst UI design" or impromptu game jam
- [233] is interested in running this
Cybersecurity Workshop
- For Defensive Cybersecurity requirements
- [GPO] might ask [MTL]
Tech Talks
- [BIRD] is interested in running a series of tech talks throughout the first semester
- About UCC stuff and UWA's missing learning gaps
- "By a software engineer at Canva"
- Can be our first tech talk of the semester
- Need to reach out to others for talks
2026 UCC Anniversary
Sometime August-September Notionally our Anniversary is the 21st of September
- [NTU]: Please pick a save-the-date to aim for, to put in the Fresher Guide/O-Day materials
- [GPO] says it's not worth pre-booking a venue based on past experience
- The time and effort is not worth the hassles of booking
- Belgium Beer Cafe in the city could be a good spot as it is big
UCC Computing Conference
- Save-the-Date EMP for 5-6 Sept
- This is specifically so we can advertise it, we do not actually have the date firm 100% as of yet.
